When you coat exterior timber people focus on the colour, timber characteristics as the most important factors.

But the real reason you coat timber is to protect! With out being coated timber will crack, split, warp, and silver off.

By coating timber you protect it from moisture which improves the dimensional stability which reduces cracking, splitting etc. and which in turn increases the service life of the timber.

Transparent timber finishes are a challenging area of the decorative coating category and the products are wide and offer very different solutions. We will have a quick look at the different type of coating available then we will drill down a bit more.
